Going once, going twice, and S-O-L-D to the wonderful team at Auction Rooms!
I did hear an entire internal auction process in my head whilst we were waiting to be seated one fine Sunday afternoon at Auction Rooms.
It was our second time there, waiting.
The first time, the queue was too long and as I was getting crankier and crankier, we ended up leaving and dining elsewhere. It wasn’t their fault.
I just get cranky when I’m not fed. Regularly. At interval hours. Or I get cranky. “Capiche?”
When we were finally seated in the “outdoors/indoors” area, I hesitated just a bit, as the wait staff indicated that I seat on a high stool at the bench table.
I have a great big fear of heights and falling off chairs when my feet don’t touch the ground. It scares me. A bit.
But I was hungry, and didn’t want to wait any longer for my coffee or lunch, I had to suck it up.
I’m not sure what to attribute this to. It was either my lapse of memory or the fear of falling face down that did it.
I forgot to take any notes or pictures of the coffee list or the menu. Please don’t shoot me.
That is business, and “we don’t discuss business at the table” 😛
But I did take very nice pictures and even had action shots of the Boy pouring out his Siphon Coffee 🙂
My Latte which had the Coffee of the Day tag (this I did take). I found the Kenyan Kongocho “AA” to be quite robust.
The Boy had the Twice Cooked Pork Belly with Smoky Baked Beans and Housemade Corn Bread which he said was rustic and good. The pork belly was definitely a winner for him. The smoky baked beans reminded him of the ones from Seven Seeds.
I had the most amazing Salmon Pastrami served on Crumbed Potato & Fish Cake with Watercress Salad, Sauce Gribiche, Poached Egg.
Pretty much the best ever fish cake I’ve had. Hands friggin’ down. It made my day.
Customers were just as colourful as the decor <3
What did I think of it all despite my avid fear of falling and my second time lucky?
Absolutely loved it.
Food was good and comforting. Coffee was warm and inviting.
It’s time I say, “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse!”
Are you able to name the movie which the quotes are from?

How to get there:
i don’t really watch that much of movies so i can’t name them but the food looks good. 🙂 plus, it’s not too far from my uni
Haha, I’ll leave the movie quotes to someone better versed in that respect.. this post does make me want to visit Auction Rooms again and hopefully with a few more months of ‘food photography’ under my belt, I’ll take as ‘delicious’ photos as you :D. Also have you tried Auction Rooms lesser known neighbour, Fandango? I’ve yet to review it but it’s pretty amazing too :).
Not you too!!
Been here a few times and enjoyed the food. Hear they do dinners too. Hey, did you like the barista ‘island’ in the middle? Can be quite a spectacle watching them make coffees.
I wanna do dinner! Yeah.. love watching baristas in action!
They do dinner?? We should do dinner! I like Auction rooms, but we hardly ever go there because I hate having to wait. 😉
We should! You can organise! YAYY!!
Yaay you finally got in! 🙂 Haha, mum and I were originally put on the high stools but we got moved inside, yeah! 😀
The boy’s siphon coffee looks so pretty! And I’ll have to try that fishcake next time!!
I know, it was still packed and it was 2pm!
Oh my gosh, same. Q was too long first time I went and it was raining too so we left, and I was sad =( And haven’t found time to go back yet, grr! But I think I’ll order the same dishes you had because they look AMAZINGGGG
Yeah, cannot be bothered with long linesssss
If I was with you, I definitely would not have spend the whole night pretending to push you off your stool.
No sirree. 😉
Yeah. Mm.. I trust you …
I’ve been like at least twice already =p
SHow off 😛
The pork belly and beans look pretty awesome! Sydney needs more places like these.
I’m so hungry thinking about it right now!
I really hate queuing for my food too – I would rather go somewhere else… though that salmon pastrami with the fishcake looks bloody delicious, I might have to find out when “off peak” times are at Auction Rooms!
Yayy! But sometimes it’s worth it!
The twice cooked pork looks so divine!
P.S., can’t really name the movie that you got a quote from 😛
It was divine 🙂 Aww… I thought the quotes were easy!
That quote is from the movie God Father 1 during his daughter’s wedding. I watched all the parts of the movie and I found them brilliant. Anyway, I love the pictures that you have shared. The food looks perfect and the coffee reminds me of the movie Green Hornet.
Bang On! You WIN!!! I can’t believe only one person spotted them!! *sigh*… And yes.. that coffee does bring back memories of Jay Chou making coffee 😛
How’s the siphon coffee? it looks super elegant 😀
It was very light and floral. Quite nice really.
Mmmmmm pork belly! Actually, both of your meals look great
I love anything crispy! So both of them would have been great either way 🙂
