Yering Station at Yarra Valley… was a requested location to visit by D&Z when they were down for their holiday… and this time, we thought we’d do something different by dining there as well…

It was also a spur of the moment decision, and as such had no booking made.. and decided to put ourselves down on the waiting list and stroll around and do some wine tastings whilst we waited…

Once seated, you can see why the place is often busy… with spectacular views of rolling hills (I’ve oftened wondered what that meant)…it’s hard to not want to dine in such a restaurant

It’d also be very silly if I didn’t order a glass of wine given that we were in a Winery…

So I went with a glass of 2008 Late Autumn Riesling (very very nice, I’ve actually had this a few times and finished a bottle as well at home)

The menu was kept simple, however our waiter seemed to be having a slow day and got a few orders messed up…(which I will go into later on)

For starters, we had bread with saffron butter…

First mistake… Ms Tinymouse ordered Beans and instead, she was served Rocket, blue cheese andpear salad, topped with champagne vinaigrette $10

It took her a while to realise that there were no hidden beans in this dish, and to fix the order…

The right dish! Green beans with roasted pine nuts and lemon pressed olive oil $10

Very simple but done very nicely…

Ms Tinymouse wasn’t feeling all too hungry and decided to just have two entrees (one being the salad)…

The other a, Truffle Corn Soup, Basil corn bread, creme fraiche corn dip and homemade grissini $19.50

This was really good, and really rich (the soup), but the quantity and the fact that they expected her to have her soup with a fork, was too me, bad service…

Next up, was my mistaken entree instead of a main.. and until we asked for the bill, everyone at the table assumed that my dish was a main (again, this was because we weren’t told what our dishes were when served)…

I had ordered the main of Duck breast with sweet potato mash, port poached figs, orange and watercaress salad with fig bigarde.. but I instead received a lovely Duck breast with Kaffir lime, coconut and ginger duck leg braise, tat soi and shallot salad $21… and here I was wondering why my main was so smalll compared to the others…

Dapeng order a Prosciutto wrapped chicken with pistachio and thyme farce, goats cheese souffle and ceps jus $35

Dish was good, but wasn’t anything really special to myself…but that’s just me…

The Boy and Z had a Black Angus eye fillet with truffled creme fraiche, dukkah vegetables, cannellini skordalia and pancetta lardons $36

And because the Boy and I are firm believers that a meal isn’t complete without desserts, we ordered the Dessert Assiette for two $36

We were given a selection of Pomegranate and rhubarb tarte Tatin with white balsamic ice cream (Which was extremely sour and unfortunately, no one wanted to finish it), Kennedy and Wilson chocolate chilli mousse with churros (YUM!), Pear and Poire Williams filled cigars with English Breakfast tea sorbet (Another yum!), a Macadamia and maple syrup parfait with nut brittle and bitter chocolate cream (Delicious) and an orange sorbet

Food/ Cuisine: Contemporary
Overall Food Rating: 7/10
Restaurant ambiance: 8/10
Service/ Attitude: 7/10 (Didn’t get the orders right or introduce the dishes)
Value for money: 6.75/10 (It was extremely pricey, for no other reason than being fresh produce –> but my thinking is that if it’s fresh from the farm, shouldn’t it be cheaper?)
